album cover for the sermon on exposition boulevard c. 2007 |
album coverThe album cover was designed by Lee Cantelon in the winter of 2006, using a self-portrait collage created by Rickie Lee Jones. Rickie created her collage from the photograph of a century-old religious painting from Mexico that she acquired in 2001. Details, such as the indigo blue dove image beneath the album title, were added from photographs Lee took of graffiti in the Arab quarter in Jerusalem in January of 2006. "I wanted the album cover to have the feel of a battered sacred book, street art mixed with icons and and east-meets-west," Lee Cantelon says of his design. Cantelon has designed five previous albums for Rickie, including "Naked Songs," "Ghostyhead," Live from Red Rocks," "It's Like This," which was nominated for a Grammy, and featured in the book, The Best Album Covers of All Time. Cantelon also art- directed the Rickie Lee Jones anthology, "Duchess of Coolsville," a three-CD set released by Rhino Records in 2005.. click here to view the rest of the album art back to the home page |
