Photographs In the Mountain's Shadow

Photographs by Lee Cantelon

I was driving through the Pacific Northwest. It was raining almost every day and had done so for the past few months, I was told. The nearly empty roads ran beneath great tunnels of dark trees. Low fog pressed down on the wet flanks of solitary fields.

The houses seemed withdrawn and secretive, some destined to survive another century, while others tottered, ready to fall.
