Your father and I met in a drug store. my mother sings. He was working behind the counter and I came in with my girl friend. There is no more powerful image than this for me, it lives, I was there, and I tell it to my daughter, Your grand mother met my dad in Chicago.... He was working at a soda fountain. They use to have soda fountains in drug stores, and it was the place to go ....for kids, you know. I think what the first record had was this. This internal American. This many years of stories that the songs were rooted in. That is why it was so powerful. the stories were trees, and they grow still, coming from the good earth of all I had heard or seen and could imagine and wanted to create. - Rickie Lee Jones |
